Stepping into the world of Defence, for partners, is like entering a foreign land with its own set of rules, customs, and most notably, a unique language. This language is laden with acronyms that seem to be exclusively owned by the service members. While no one expects partners to know them, much less learn them, understanding these acronyms isn’t merely a matter of clear communication—it’s a partner’s ticket to feeling more connected, informed, and empowered as a Defence Partner! That said, you don’t need to know all of them! Just some of them. From becoming a Defence Partner until our medical transition out, these are the acronyms I came to need to know. Your crash course on the essential Defence acronyms a partner needs to know begins now.
